The Women Cell of the college organised a talk ‘Men and Menstruation: The Need for Awareness’ for both male and female students who attended it together. Convenor of women cell Dr Pratibha discussed in detail the issues, taboos and stereotypes regarding menstrual cycle/periods of women and the need to spread more awareness among men in society. She began the talk with the basic premise of Menstruation being a natural phenomenon and how the social stigma built around it is absolutely immoral and inhuman. In her detailed presentation, she went on to give some striking facts on how young girls get affected physically, psychologically, socially and how these changed impact the entire course of their lives, and how we as a society need to bring normalcy around this very natural occurrence in a female body, essential for their health and a nature designed way of procreation. The talk proved to be an eye opener for students, specially male students who gave the feedback that they had never been told about Menstruation ever, so openly by anyone and that’s the reason of their misconceptions around the issue. Male students were asked a quiz at the end of the talk and they were given packets of sanitary napkins as prizes, which they flaunted proudly in their hands. The feedback forms were filled at the end and students collectively appreciated this activity and wanted more such activities in future
A poster making competition was also held on the topic ‘Menstrual Hygiene and Awareness’ , both male and female students enthusiastically participated in this competition and the winners were given Period Positive Kits as prizes.
The Women Cell of the College organised a webinar on Evolution of the Rights of Women. The Speaker on the occasion was Mr Navin Gulia, ex Army officer, A karma yogi, national award winner from the president of India, an author and Founder President of ADAA Apni Dunia Apna Ashiyana, a charitable trust working for upliftment of women and girl child. In activities related to or organised by the women cell, there’s one common observation that these programs are considered quintessentially for the women, of the women and by the women, and men are automatically excluded from such activities wheras the truth is the we need more men on board to talk about women issues which can’t be discussed in isolation. Sensitisation can be achieved by involving the males counterparts also in this human existence of ours. This webinar was a step towards that end. The coordinator of the cell Dr Pratibha introduced the speaker and stated in brief his achievements and accolades. Mr Gulia in his address laid emphasis on re conditioning the mindsets of the society towards even the very basic issues related to women. He gave an anthropological aspect of the current situation of the society in which women are automatically relegated to a lower position than men and how we need to change it in our collective consciousness as human beings, not just as women and men. The talk was very well received by over a hundred participants who joined virtually and a Q and A session was held at the end of the session
