Biotechnology is one of the youngest and fastest growing discipline in the education sphere having multidisciplinary applications world wide. It provides an opportunity to enable oneself to be skillful in a specialized area having wide horizon of careers to choose.Graduates in biotechnology have a variety of career options like post-graduation in a number of fields included in their syllabus, including Biomedical Science, Industrial Biotechnology and Food Technology. Clinical Research and MBA-Biotech too have bright prospects. These days the Course in Food Technology is in great demand and is offered by Institutes like GNDU,Amritsar, G.B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology Pantnagar, HaryanaAgriculture University,Hissar etc.

Regarding job opportunities, Biotechnology graduates being professionally qualified are the most suitable candidates for pursuing their career in pharma, cosmetics, agriculture, aqua culture, bioprocessing and food processing industries like Amul, Haldiram's etc. as far as private sector is concerned. They may apply for the post of Scientific Assistant/Technical Assistant of Immunology, Regional Centre of Biotechnology,Centre for cellular and molecular biology, National Environmental Engineering Research Institute, Tata Institute for fundamental research, Forensic Science Laboratories that employ DNA Finger printing & Food Corporation of India etc. After post-graduation , they can be absorbed in top Pharma Industries like Ranbaxy and Cipla as drug analyst or in research areas in top MNCs. MBA-Biotechnologist can move in management related jobs in above said companies.If interested, one can pursue career in teaching institutes also.
