The department of geography, established in the year 1964, is the fastest growing department in the college with approximately 400 enrolment in under-graduate class in the previous session. Continuous improvements in teaching methods, use of audio- visual aids and thrust on practical aspects & field work helped the department to gain the present glory. The NAAC inspection committee made a special note on the performance of the department in its report. To fulfill the ever increasing needs and demands of quality education at the post-graduate level in geography, the college administration decided to introduce M.A Geography from the session 2009-10 The department of geography is committed to impart quality education in the most effective manner to the post-graduate students. The department has all requisite infrastructures for efficient teaching


The Objective of the Course

Role of geographers have been ever changing in tackling various problems in different walks of life With the emergence of inter-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary approach in tackling different problems, geographers are, now, confronted with new challenges. The department of geography aims at preparing young geographers who can accept these challenges and contribute valuably in the newly emerging field of computer mapping, remote sensing geographical information system, geographical positioning system, environmental planning, city & regional planning, rural development, sustainable development, strategic studies, business location and international trade hydrology and many others. Major objectives of the course are.

- Imparting knowledge of various specialized branches of geography.

- Imparting proper practical exposure to the students

-Training young geographers in observing and recording of geographical phenomena so that they can prove their worth in various fields..


Career for Geographers::

MSc Geography in itself is a very good course for career building. Besides career in teaching it is very helpful in various competitive exams Beyond this Geographers can pursue M Tech. in city & Regional Planning, M.Tech in infrastructure planning, M.Tech in Transport Planning, M.Tech. in Remote Sensing and GIS These professional courses are very helpful in placing Geographers in various Govt. Departments, organizations and private agencies with a very high status and package


Lecture Theatres & Practical Labs.

The department is having modem lecture theatres equipped with overhead projector, slide projector. digital projector and epidiascope. The department is also having practical tabs equipped with requisite apparatuses and instruments Shortly the department will have its own computer lab which will facilitate the students to leam computer aided cartography, Remote Sensing and Geographical information System


Admission to MSc Geography Course: The Number of soats is 40.
Eligibility Conditions: Bachelor's Degree/Shastri examination (New Scheme) of three year duration with at least 45% marks in aggregate or any other examination recognised as equivalent thereto
Note Eligibility condition for Admission to M.A. will be minimum pass marks in the qualifying examination for SC/ST candidates
Scheme of Examination:

MSc Geography shall be of two years duration spread ever four semesters. Each semester consist of four theory papers and one practical paper of 100 marks each All the theory papers shall be of hours duration and practical paper of four hours duration. Marks of intemal assessment shall be awarde per the laid down norms of the university. The department will provide for the optional papers according administrative and academic convenience Promotion from lower to higher semester will be as per university rules.
